Thandi AI (PTY) LTD is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all South African students, including those with disabilities. We believe every student deserves equal access to quality career guidance, regardless of their abilities.

Core Principles:

Ubuntu-based: Accessibility is not a feature, it's our foundation

Nothing about us without us: Students with disabilities involved in design

Progressive enhancement: Works for everyone, works better for modern browsers

Bandwidth-aware: Accessible on low-speed connections and older devices

Target Compliance: Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA

2. CURRENT ACCESSIBILITY STATUS (BETA)

2.1 Known Limitations (Beta Phase)

Visual Accessibility:

⚠️ Color contrast: Some charts/graphs do not meet 4.5:1 ratio (being fixed)

⚠️ Alt text: Some decorative images missing alt attributes

⚠️ Screen reader: Complex recommendation tables need better ARIA labels

Motor Accessibility:

⚠️ Keyboard navigation: Some interactive elements not fully keyboard-accessible

⚠️ Focus indicators: Visible focus needs improvement on some buttons

Cognitive Accessibility:

⚠️ Plain language: Some technical terms need simpler explanations

⚠️ Error messages: Some form errors not clearly explained

Auditory Accessibility:

✅ No audio content: No videos or audio requiring captions (yet)

Seizure & Vestibular:

✅ No flashing content: No elements flashing more than 3 times per second

2.2 Assistive Technology Compatibility

Screen Readers:

⚠️ JAWS (Windows): Partially compatible (tested with 2025)

⚠️ VoiceOver (iOS/macOS): Partially compatible (tested with iOS 17)

Speech Recognition:

⚠️ Dragon NaturallySpeaking: Basic commands work, complex navigation pending

Alternative Input:

⚠️ Keyboard-only: 80% functional (known gaps in assessment wizard)

3.1 Visual Features

✅ Scalable text: Text can be resized without breaking layout (most pages)

✅ Clear headings: Proper heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3)

✅ Link purpose: Descriptive link text (not "click here")

✅ No content-only-by-color: Information not conveyed by color alone (mostly)

3.2 Motor Features

✅ Large click targets: Buttons minimum 44x44px

✅ No time limits: Students can take assessment at their own pace

✅ Simple navigation: Consistent navigation menu across pages

⚠️ Skip links: Present but not yet functional on all pages

3.3 Cognitive Features

✅ Plain language: Average readability grade 8-9 level

✅ Logical flow: Assessment follows clear step-by-step process

✅ Error prevention: Form validation before submission

✅ Progress indicators: Shows where you are in the process

✅ Consistent layout: Same structure across all pages

3.4 Technical Features

✅ Valid HTML: Semantic HTML5 structure

✅ ARIA landmarks: Some implemented (banner, main, navigation)
